Men's Basketball Opens 2020 in the Victory Column

MARIETTA, Ga. ---- The Life University men's basketball team opened the 2020 season with an 88-70 win over Thomas University Friday night in the Blackstock Insurance Agency Classic.  
 
STANDOUT PERFORMERS 
Isaiah Hart led the Running Eagles offensively with a game-high 29 points. He added five rebounds, five assists, and three steals.
James Moore also finished in double figures for the night as he added 13 points with nine rebounds and three blocks.
Derrick Cook also finished in double figures with 12 points and added five rebounds with a pair of steals.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED 
• Thomas held its only lead of the game four minutes in 7-6. Life U would take posession and outscore the Nighthawks 51-32 in the first half. 
• A 17-2 Life U run extended the lead to 16, 36-20, with 6:19 left in the first half.
• Cook added the final points of the half on a three with the assist from Hart just outside the one minute mark as Life U took a 51-32 lead into the half.
• With 9:07 remaining in the game, Cumberlands led 62-59, however back-to-back threes from White and Milligan put the Running Eagles ahead 65-62 with 8:19 remaining in the game.
• Life U led by 20 or more the first four minutes of the second half as a block from Moore held the Running Eagles ahead 60-40 five minutes in.
• Thomas cut the lead to 13, 78-65, with 4:31 on the clock, but Life U continued to heat up from beyond the arc to quickly expand the lead past 20 once more. Moore added the final bucket with 1:25 on the clock as Life U earned the 88-70 season opening win.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• Life U finished 32-for-69 from the field, 46.4%, while Thomas shot 26-for-55, 47.3%. The Running Eagles finished 12-for-28, 42.9% from beyond the arc, as the Nighthawks went 7-for-20, 35%.
• Life U forced 20 turnovers in the game and scored 23 points off of the chances.
• Life U held a slight 36-32 lead over Thomas in points scored in the paint. The Running Eagles dominated the boards with a 44-26 advantage.
 
UP NEXT 
• The men's basketball team will continue play in the Blackstock Insurance Agency Classic tomorrow as they host Southeastern Baptist College at 2 PM inside the Eagles' Nest.
