PORTSMOUTH, Ohio. ---- The Life University women's basketball team was unable to overcome a slow start in the first half and fell in the Mid-South Conference opener to No. 9 Shawnee State 76-48 Thursday night.
NOTES
• Life U fell to 2-2 (0-1) on the year, while Shawnee State improved to 7-0 (1-0).
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
•
Sydni Tears led the Running Eagles offensively with a team-high 13 points. She added five rebounds with a pair of assists and steals.
•
Cheyenne Daphney also finished in double figures with 12 points. She tallied eight rebounds and a steal as well.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Shawnee State jumped out early in the first quarter, as the Bears led the Running Eagles 20-8 after the first ten minutes.
• Life U continued its defensive pressure to minimize Shawnee State in the second quarter, however the Running Eagles trailed 38-18 at the half.
• Life U responded in the second half as they cut the lead to single-digits (9) with 3:15 left in the third quarter as Edeh connected with the put-back. The bucket ended a 9-1 run for Life U (42-33). Shawnee State ended the third on an 11-3 run to head into the fourth ahead 53-36.
• The Bears closed out the game with a 22-12 advantage in the fourth quarter to earn the 76-48 win over the Running Eagles.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• Life U finished 18-for-61 from the field, 29.5%, while Shawnee State shot 26-for-76, 34.2%. The Running Eagles finished 0-for-7 from beyond the arc, as the Bears went 7-for-25, 28%.
• Life U forced 16 turnovers in the game and scored four points off of the chances.
• Life U shot 12-for-22, 54.5%, from the free-throw line as Shawnee State finished 16-for-25, 64%.
