Women's Soccer Makes it Four in a Row with 2-1 Win over Shawnee State

MARIETTA, Ga. --- Alexandra Collighan found the back of the net in the final 10 minutes to help guide the Life University women's soccer team to its fourth-straight victory, today's win coming over Shawnee State, 2-1, in a noon match played at Marietta High School.

Shawnee State (5-10-0, 1-7-0 MSC) struck first in the contest, recording a goal in the 13th minute, but Life University (7-6-0, 4-4-0 MSC) controlled the momentum the rest of the game, winning the contest 2-1. Life U's first score came towards the end of the first half, Jeanne Brigand placing a ball perfectly on the free kick to record a goal. The Running Eagles could have had more goals, taking a 12-2 edge in shots taken with seven on goal, but the Bears goalkeeper was able to keep most everything in front of her, seeing the game stand at a 1-1 tie at halftime. Life U maintained its offensive pressure during the second frame, but remained unable to find the back of the net. With less than 10 minutes to go in the game, Collighan collected a pass from Amiyah Robinson on the left side of the field, kicking the ball into the goal to record the game winner. Shawnee State only manged to get off a single shot in the second half as the Running Eagles pulled out the win.

Life U's scorers on the day, Brigand and Collighan, led all players in shots taken at six total, while holding a .500 shot on goal percentage as both also had three shots on frame.

The offensive statistic heavily favored Life U, the team taking 30 shots to the Bears' three, while also holding an 8-0 edge in corner kicks. Shawnee State's goalkeeper did a good job, keeping the game as close as it was, helping her team to a 13-2 lead in saves. The game was played relatively cleanly, both teams being awarded only nine fouls.

The women's Soccer team is on the road for the next two games, starting with a Wednesday, October 20th match against Thomas More at 5 PM.
