Men's Soccer Falls in Final Moment to Campbellsville, 2-1

MARIETTA, Ga. --- Goalkeeper Fabian Pekruhl played excellently in goal and Danny DeLorijn scored his seventh goal of the season, but it was not enough as the Campbellsville Tigers posted scores in the final seconds of the first half and second overtime, the Life University men's soccer team falling 2-1 in two overtimes on the KSU-Marietta Intramural Field Saturday afternoon.

Life U (3-4-1, 1-2-1 MSC) suffered its second conference loss in a row, while Campbellsville (7-0-1, 3-0-1 MSC) stands without a loss four games into the Mid-South Conference schedule. The Running Eagles gave the Tigers all they could want, outshooting Campbellsville through the first 45 minutes, but allowing one goal with six seconds left to the break. Coming out of halftime down 1-0, the Running Eagles quickly put pressure on the Tigers' backline, breaking through to even the game. Callum Jenkins placed a perfect ball from a corner kick that DeLorijn kicked into the back of the net to tie the game 1-1 with 34 minutes to go in regulation. In the final 10 minutes of the second half, Pekruhl kept the team alive, stopping three dangerous Campbellsville attacking opportunities with huge saves to see the game go to overtime. DeLorijn put two shots on frame over the two extra periods, and as it looked like the game would be ending in a tie, Campbellsville scored the game-winning goal with only a second left.

Despite the loss, Pekruhl stood out as one of the brightest spots for the team against the Tigers, earning nine saves. DeLorijn scored in his fourth-straight game while leading both teams in shots at 10 with six of them being on frame.

The game was as close statistically as it was on the scoreboard, on the attack Campbellsville leading in shots 28 (11 on goal) to Life U's 25 (12 on goal), while the Running Eagles led corner kicks 12-7. The Tigers held a slight advantage in saves at 11-9. Fouls and penalties were called relatively evenly between the tow teams, Life earning a couple more fouls at 17-15, while both teams recorded a single yellow card.

The men's soccer team is on the road for its next two conference contests, starting with a game in McKenzie, Tenn. against Bethel University on Thursday, October 7th at 7:30 PM.
