Men's Soccer Records Late Goal for 2-1 Victory at Freed-Hardeman

HENDERSON, Tenn. --- The Life University men's soccer team bounced back from three consecutive losses with a Jinwoo Kang goal in the final minutes at Mid-South Conference foe Freed-Hardeman, winning 2-1 in an afternoon contest played at University School of Jackson.

Neither Life University (4-5-1, 2-3-1 MSC) or Freed-Hardeman (5-6-0, 1-6-0 MSC) could find much in the way of offensive success through the first 45 minutes of play, both team's defenses completely shutting down the other team, limiting shot opportunities in a scoreless first half. That quickly changed with the opening of the second half, Life U getting on board first after Steinar Magnusson kicked in a goal assisted by Stan Vandierendonck just three minutes into the period. The Lions followed the score up with one of their own just two minutes later to see the game tied 1-1 early in the second half. With time running low, the Running Eagles transitioned a Fabian Pekruhl save into a scoring opportunity, Wilfried Tchoupa Kamden passing the ball to Kang who was in front of the goal, kicking the game winner into the upper right portion of the net. Freed-Hardeman got a final chance in the 89th minute, but the kick was high, seeing the Running Eagles win 2-1.

Both Life U scores came from the player's only shots of the game, both Magnusson and Kang taking a single shot in the contest. Neither team created too much offensive pressure as the teams combined for only 14 shots, the Running Eagles leading the category 9-5, while Life U also led on corner kicks 7-5. The Lions collected more saves during the game at 4-2. Freed-Hardeman found themselves being called on much more fouls and cards, leading 20-13 in fouls and 5-1 in cards.

The men return home for their next contest, facing the University of Pikeville in a home Mid-South Conference game, meeting Friday, October 15 at 3 PM on the KSU-Marietta intramural field.
