FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. ---- The Life University men's soccer team earned its first victory of the season tonight, defeating Emmanuel College 2-0 on the road.
NOTES
• The road win improves the Running Eagles record to 1-1, while the contest did not count for the Lions that are currently 0-1.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• Freshman midfielder
Jelle De Graaf put together an excellent performance, netting both of the late goals for Life U in the team's victory on five total shots.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Both teams did a good job of stymieing the opposing team's offensive efforts through the first half,
Fabian Pekruhl picking up one of his three saves during the game in the early running of the game. Life U got off twice as many shots as Emmanuel through the first half, 7-to-3, but neither team broke through for a score in the first 45.
• The second half saw the game grow chippier as the teams combined for six second half yellow cards.
Zidane Bogle and
Matteo Esposito came close to goals in the opening minutes of the second half, but it wasn't till the final 10 minutes of the game that scores finally went up. Wilfried Tchoup Kamden assisting De Graaf on the first goal at 81:43, while
Steinar Magnusson passed the ball up to De Graaf for the finish in the 85th minute to put the final score, 2-0, up on the board.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• Life U outshot Emmanuel College by a wide margin, possessing 17 (nine on goal) compared to the Lions' nine (three on goal).
• The Running Eagles also earned an edge on corner kicks attempted at 5-3.
• Life U recorded three saves, while Emmanuel racked up seven.
