No. 13 Men's Volleyball Extends Winning Streak to Six with Road Sweep

LAURINBURG, N.C. ---- The No. 13 nationally ranked Life University men's volleyball team picked up its third consecutive sweep Sunday afternoon on the road at St. Andrews University. 
 
NOTES
• Life U improved to 5-0 (2-0) on the year and totaled 36 kills and eight aces in the sweep.
 
STANDOUT PERFORMERS 
Ryan Ollie led the Running Eagles offensively with 13 kills and a .550 hitting percentage. He added two solo blocks and a block assist during the match.
Felipe Gonzalez added nine kills with three service aces and seven digs.
• Javier Cornier tallied 27 assists and seven digs as well. 
• Nevin Johnson totaled five kills with three service aces and a block assist. 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED 
• Life U led 6-2 early in set one after a service error from St. Andrews, however the Knights responded with a 9-1 run to take an 11-7 advantage. Trailing 14-11, Life U capitalized on a few attack errors from St. Andrews and the ace from Johnson put the Running Eagles ahead 16-14. Life U ended the first set with a 4-1 run as Perez picked up the ace, 25-21.
• Life U led 12-9 halfway through the second set but used a 6-0 run to distance the advantage by nine, 18-0, with the kill from Gonzalez. A service error ended the second set with a 25-17 win for the Running Eagles.
• Life U led again early in the third set, but a 3-1 run from St. Andrews in the middle of the game gave the Knights a 16-15 advantage. A 5-0 run from Life U was finished with the kill from Perez to put the Running Eagles up 20-16. Gonzalez put the match away with a pair of aces to earn the 25-18 win for Life U.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• Life U led St. Andrews in kills 36-25. Life U finished with a hitting percentage of .415 as St. Andrews finished with a .100.
• Life U led St. Andrews in all statistical categories. They led 8-6 in aces, 7-4 in blocks, 32-21 in assists and 23-17 in digs.
• St. Andrews committed 18 attacking errors as Life U finished with nine.
 
UP NEXT
• The men's volleyball team will return to action on Thursday, February 18, as they continue Mid-South Conference play and host (RV) Webber International University at 7:30 PM.
