Women's Volleyball Seals MSC Opening Win 3-2 Over Georgetown

MARIETTA, Ga. ---- The Life University women's volleyball team came away with the 3-2 Mid-South Conference opening win over Georgetown at home Thursday night. 
 
NOTES
• Life U improved to 14-2 (1-0) on the year and totaled 75 kills and 117 digs in the sweep.
 
STANDOUT PERFORMERS 
Caitlyn Neal led the Running Eagles offense with 21 kills and a .300 hitting percentage.
Mary Zimmerman hit .500 and totaled 19 kills with four block assists.
• Fayola Louis (16) and Lena Pucnik also finished in double figures offensively as each picked up a double-double with Louis adding 13 digs and Pucnik finishing with 22. 
• Defensively, the Running Eagles were led by Marin Black with 26 digs as Michele O'Haver totaled 23 digs. 
• Kennedy Neal tallied a career-high 68 assists with three block assists and 18 digs. 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED 
• Life U led 13-11 halfway through the first set but used a 6-1 run as Louis picked up the kill to lead 19-12. Another 4-0 run from Life U went unanswered as Keener picked up the ace to lead 23-16. Pucnik and Neal picked up the final kills as the Running Eagles rolled to a 25-19 win in set one.
• Life U led 7-2 early in set two with a kill from Louis. Georgetown used a 6-1 run to take the lead 10-9 after four consecutive errors. Life U responded to take a 14-12 lead after the kill from Neal, however Georgetown immediately answered to take a 19-18 lead. A 6-1 run ended the set with the Tigers tying the match.
• Georgetown came out in the third set leading 7-3 and used a 7-1 run to lead 14-6. Trailing 20-12 late in the set, the Running Eagles started to connect offensively with an 8-2 run to cut the lead to two. Georgetown picked up a crucial kill to lead by three, but a 6-1 run from Life U gave the Running Eagles the set 26-24.
• Life U led 14-9 halfway through the fourth set, but a 7-1 run from Georgetown gave the Tigers the one-point advantage. Georgetown held on with another 7-2 run to take the fourth set and tie the match at two games each, 25-21.
• Life U controlled the fifth set using a 5-0 run to lead by six, 10-4, with the kill from Pucnik. Zimmerman recorded a kill and the block from Mollick and Zimmerman gave the Running Eagles the 15-10 set win to seal the MSC opening victory.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• Life U led Georgetown in kills 75-52. Life U finished with a hitting percentage of .210 as Georgetown finished with a .175.
• Life U led Georgetown 73-47 in assists and 117-95 in digs.
• Georgetown narrowly edged Life U in blocks 8-7 and led in aces 10-7.
 
UP NEXT
• The women's volleyball team will return to action on Monday, February 22, when they travel to Pulaski, Tenn. and continue Mid-South Conference play against Martin Methodist College at 7 PM.
