Women's Soccer Loses Nail-Biter, 2-1, Against No. 11 Lindsey Wilson

Marietta, Ga. ---- The Women's Soccer team came up just short at home today in Mid-South Conference action, 2-1, against Lindsey Wilson, the refs awarding the Blue Raiders the winning goal in the in the final minute of the second overtime.
 
NOTES
• Sunday's noon game saw Life U fall to 4-1-1 (0-2) with the loss, while No. 11 Lindsey Wilson starts its season 1-0 (1-0).
 
STANDOUT PERFORMERS 
Leah McDaid recorded the lone Life U goal of the game, launching the ball from near midfield to get the ball in just below the crossbar out of the goal keeper's reach.
• Despite taking the loss, Emily Hounsell played hard in goal, collecting six saves over the course of the game.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED 
• Life U found themselves on the back foot early in the first half as Hounsell came up big, stopping three Lindsey Wilson attempts with saves over the first 15 minutes of play. Life U's defenders did a good job of positioning over the half, coming up with two blocked shots as well as drawing Lindsey Wilson offsides many times to end attacks. The teams went into the break with everything knotted up at zero.
• The second half saw Life U even things up more when it came to exerting offensive pressure, McDaid getting things started quickly in the second with a long range goal in the 48th minute for a 1-0 lead. The team's fought tightly over the next 20 minutes until the Blue Raiders finally broke through to even things up 1-1 with just over 19 minutes to go in the game. Hounsell came up with another big save in the final minute of regulation as the team's prepared for overtime.
• The first overtime saw both team's defenses playing strong, neither team attempting a single shot over the entire 10 minute period. The second overtime looked like it was headed towards the same conclusion as the first, but with just a minute left until the game ended as a tie, a Lindsey Wilson shot was awarded the goal by the referees to end the game in the Blue Raiders' favor, 2-1.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• Life U did not attempt many shots over the game, Lindsey Wilson possessing a 17 (nine on goal) to six (two on goal) advantage in shots.
• Life U had the advantage when it came to saves earned, the team putting together seven to Lindsey Wilson's one.
• The Running Eagles were called on more fouls than the Blue Raiders with the team's getting 17 and 10, respectively.
 
UP NEXT
• The Running Eagles hit the road for their next game, traveling to Mid-South Conference foe Campbellsville for a 4 PM Tuesday, February 23 meeting.
