Men's Soccer Come Up Short at Shawnee State, 4-1

PORTSMOUTH, Ohio ---- The men's soccer team lost on the road at Shawnee State today, falling to a barrage of goals in the second half for the 4-1 Mid-South Conference loss.
 
NOTES
• Sunday afternoon's loss moves Life U's record to 3-7 (2-6), while the Bears improved to 5-2-3 (3-2-2).
 
STANDOUT PERFORMERS 
• Bart Kooistra scored the lone Running Eagle goal of the game, his goal coming off two total shots both of which were on goal.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED 
• The team fought back-and-forth through the first half, as neither team could find the back of the net. Fabian Pekruhl collected four saves before the Bears broke through for the first goal in the final five minutes of the first half to see Life U go to the break down 1-0.
• At nearly the 15th minute of the second half, Callum Jenkins attempted a shot on goal which the goalie managed to save, but Kooistra was waiting nearby to collect the ball and kick it in for the 1-1 tie. After the goal, Shawnee State quickly responded with another score to take control of the game posting three goals over the remainder of the game to give Life U the 4-1 loss.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• The attempted shots were relatively close in the game Life U shooting 12 with seven on goal to Shawnee State's 16 with nine on goal.
• The Bears had a slight advantage in saves at 6-5.
• The Running Eagles did not attempt a single corner kick during the game, while Shawnee State had seven.
• The teams tied when it came to fouls and cards with 12 and two, respectively, for both teams.
 
UP NEXT
• The Running Eagles stay on the road for their next game, facing the University of Pikeville Tuesday, March 16 at 3 PM.
