Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | Coy Gill

Men's Soccer Dominates on the Road at Pikeville, 8-0

PIKEVILLE, Ky. ---- Three Life U men's soccer players scored a pair of goals as the team posted a program record 45 shots, running away for the road Mid-South Conference win, 8-0, today at the University of Pikeville.

NOTES
• Tuesday morning's landslide victory improves the Running Eagles' record to 4-7 (3-6), while Pikeville drops to 2-4-1 (0-4-1).

STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• With the team's stellar performance on the attack, many players posted great games, but Reyes Hernandez led the way with a career performance, garnering two goals and two assists off of six total shots, four of which were on goal.
• Wilfried Tchoupa Kamden kept pressure on the Pikeville defense all game, recording two goals off a game high five on goal shots.
• Luciano Diaz was the other Running Eagle to earn two goals, providing a spark off the bench with four shots and two goals.
• The other players to score in the game were Thierry Jules and Bart Kooistra, the pair combining for 11 attempted shots.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Life U took control of the game early and never gave Pikeville a chance to sneak back in as the men's team seemed to maintain pressure on the Bears' defense the entire half. The Running Eagles scored a pair of goals in the first 11 minutes of the contest, the first recorded by Hernandez while he assisted Kooistra on the second. After not scoring for 20 minutes, a flurry of scores in the final 10 minutes of the half-- two from Tchoupa Kamden and one from Diaz-- put the game well and truly out of reach, Life U taking a 5-0 lead into the break.
• The second half played out the same as the first, the Running Eagles continuing to run away with the game as they did not let up on the offensive side of the field. Hernandez recorded his second assist and then goal of the game for the first two scores of the second, his assist going to a T. Jules score while his goal came off a Jerry Avellandeda pass. In the final minute of the competition, Diaz got off one more goal to give the final score of 8-0.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• Life U set a new program record in shots this game with 45, 26 of which were on goal. The Bears did not attempt their first (and only) shot until the 78th minute.
• With the huge disparity in shots taken, it comes as no surprise that Pikeville amassed 18 saves to Life U's zero.
• The Running Eagles earned many corner kick chances, outdoing Pikeville 11-0 in the category.
• The game was relatively cleanly played, Life U earning seven fouls and no cards, while the Bears had a single foul and two cards.

UP NEXT
• The Running Eagles return home for the final two games of the season, facing Thomas More Sunday, March 21 at 3 PM in Lupo Family Field.
