Women's Lacrosse Back on Track With Dominant, 23-9, Victory at (RV) Ave Maria

AVE MARIA, Fla. ---- Maria Arvizu exploded for seven goals as the seventh-ranked Life University women's lacrosse team got back on track Wednesday night, defeating (RV) Ave Maria on the road in dominant fashion, 23-8, in Mid-South Conference action.
 
NOTES
• Life U ended its losing streak with the huge victory, pushing the team's record to 8-3 (3-1), while Ave Maria drops to 1-3 (1-2).
 
STANDOUT PERFORMERS 
• Arvizu led all players by contributing nine points to the Running Eagles' effort, scoring a career-high seven goals off of eight shots, all of which were on target. The junior also put together three ground balls, six draw controls, and two caused turnovers.
• Tina Ricci turned in yet another great performance for Life U, scoring four goals to go with her game-high three assists. The senior also earned a ground ball and caused turnover to go with six draw controls.
• Both Brianna Freeman and Tori Adcox took advantage of their opportunities, scoring three goals each while both of them also had four shots on goal.
• Leanne Windon was a force defensively for the Running Eagles, collecting a game-high six ground balls and six caused turnovers.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED 
• The first nearly eight minutes of the competition had the game looking to be setting up for a back-and-forth affair, Life U holding a 3-2 lead. With 21:34 left in the half, a Ricci goal sparked a 5-0 run over a seven-minute period, the Running Eagles taking control of the game. The teams held pace over the rest of the half, Life U heading to the break with a 13-6 advantage.
• Life U ran away with things in the second half, Marina Pechonkina and Adcox posting goals in the first two minutes of the period. Three more Running Eagles' goals pushed the lead past 10, 18-7, for a running clock. The Gyrenes answered with a goal at the 20:09 mark, but Life U went on another five-goal run, the team guiding its way to a dominant 23-9 victory.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• Life U led Ave Maria in shots attempted 32-23, being incredibly accurate with their shots as 30 of the 32 were on goal.
• The Running Eagles also led in saves over the course of the game with nine to the Gyrenes' seven.
• Life U committed 18 turnovers in the game to Ave Maria's 21.
• The Running Eagles picked up 19 ground balls compared to the 23 from Ave Maria, the Life U earned the lead in draw controls, 19-15, during the game.

• The women's lacrosse team stays on the road for their next contest, traveling to No. 2 Keiser University for a 12 PM Mid-South Conference game Friday, April 2.
