No. 3 Keiser Ends No. 9 Women's Lacrosse Historic 14-Game Win Streak

MARIETTA, Ga. ---- The No. 9 nationally ranked Life University women's lacrosse game entered Saturday afternoon's home matchup with No. 3 Keiser University riding a historic 14 game win streak and an 8-0 record at home that began on February 12, 2020. 

The Seahawks used a 7-0 run that stretched nearly 20 minutes in the second half to win 13-9 and end the program-record streak for the Running Eagles. Keiser jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first six minutes of action, as Life U responded with four unanswered to take the lead with 15:47 remaining in the half. Keiser responded with three of its own as Legaspi found the back of the net in the 22nd minute to put the game at 6-5 in favor of the visitors at the break.

Arvizu broke through in the opening minute for Life U to tie the match at six. However, the 7-0 run from the Seahawks ended with 9:45 on the clock as Keiser led 13-6. The Running Eagles tallied three goals in the final nine minutes, but were unable to overcome the defecit and fell 13-9.

Both Tina Ricci and Brianna Freeman scored a hat trick in the game. Ricci added three assists, three ground balls, four caused turnovers and four draw controls. Maria Arvizu finished with two goals and two assists with three ground balls, four caused turnovers and four draw controls. Leanne Windon continued to shine defensively with a team-high six caused turnovers and five ground balls. Lacy Legaspi added the final goal for the Running Eagles. 

In the team box score, Life U outshot Keiser 26-25, however the Seahawks held a 24-23 advantage in shots on frame. Keiser led in saves 14-11 and the Seahawks had more turnovers 30-27. Life U held a 27-25 lead in ground balls, however Keiser was more successful in clears going 22-26 as Life U finished 25-35. Keiser also led in draw controls 15-9 and free-position shots 9-8. 

The women's lacrosse team currently sit at 3-1 in MSC play and are behind Keiser in second place for the South Division with wins over Ave Maria and Webber International earlier in the year. The team will return to action on Saturday, March 13, as they welcome the University of Montevallo to Lupo Family Field at 4:30 PM.
