PULASKI, Tenn. ---- Three Life University men's soccer players scored in the second half as the Running Eagles pulled away for a 3-1 victory on the road at Tennessee Southern Tuesday night to start the conference season.
NOTES
• Life U (3-2, 1-0 MSC) came alive in the second half to clinch a Mid-South Conference schedule opening win, while third-ranked Tennessee Southern (2-4, 0-1 MSC) faded late in their loss.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• Wilfried Tchoupa Kamden continued to act as a leader for Life U on the offensive side, leading the team with four shots, while pitching in a goal and an assist.
• Danny DeLorijn matched Tchoupa Kamden with a goal and an assist, his goal proving to be the game winner for Life U.
• Luciano Diaz recorded the first goal of the game for the Running Eagles while taking three total shots.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Neither team could get create much in the way of offensive results in the first half, the team's combining for only seven first half shots. The Running Eagles defense did its jobs during the period, goal keeper Fabian Pekruhl capturing two saves on UT-Southern's four shots to see the team's go to the half tied at 0-0.
• It did not take long for a team to get on the board in the second half, the Firehawks striking first to take a 1-0 lead after only four minutes had passed in the half. Diaz finally got the Running Eagles on the board in the 58th minute scoring off a pass from Bart Kooistra to tie the game 1-1. Tchoupa Kamden assisted a DeLorijn score just a few minutes later that would end up being the game winner. With a little over 10 minutes remaining in the game, Tchoupa Kamden gave the Running Eagles some breathing room off a score that was aided by DeLorijn to give the game's final score of 3-1.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• Life U led shots taken 15-10, while also holding a slight edge in shots on goal at 12-8.
• Both teams collected a good number of saves, the Firehawks earning a small advantage in the stat at 9-7.
• Corner kicks were also in UT-Southern's favor at 6-5.
• Life U was penalized much more than the Firehawks, being called on 22 times to UT-Southern's three. The Running eagles also received more yellow cards at 3-2.
