KENNESAW, Ga. --- The Life University men's soccer team suffered its first Mid-South Conference loss of the season tonight versus No. 18 Lindsey Wilson on the campus of Kennesaw Mountain High School,
Danny DeLorijn scoring twice in the final minutes to put together a late Life U charge that fell just short in the 4-3 loss.
Life University (3-3-1, 1-1-1 MSC) despite not taking many shots during the contest played efficiently to stay in the contest against No. 18 Lindsey Wilson (4-1-1, 3-0-0 MSC), leaving the first half in a 1-1 tie after
Wilfried Tchoupa Kamden opened the scoring off a pass from
Bart Kooistra in the 24th minute. The Blue Raiders put together a pair of goals early in the second half to take control of the game 3-1, but with just under 15 minutes remaining DeLorijn scored his first off touches from Tchoupa Kamden and
Callum Jenkins. Again, Lindsey Wilson created breathing room with a score, but DeLorijn scored his second goal in the final minute of the game to again cut the lead to just one at 4-3. With under 10 seconds to play, Life U had a chance fouling a Lindsey Wilson foul, but was not able to score, losing 4-3.
Lindsey Wilson had a large advantage in shots, but Life U was more efficient with the shots they took, having seven on goal in their 12 shots, while Lindsey Wilson had 12 on goal in their 22 shots. Life U recorded eight saves in comparison to the Blue Raiders' four, while the teams were close in corner kicks, Lindsey Wilson leading 4-3. The game was played incredibly physically, both teams earning many fouls. Lindsey Wilson led fouls 22-17, while the teams matched each other with two cards each.
DeLorijn had another great Mid-South Conference game, putting together two goals on his team-high six shots with four on goal. Tchoupa Kamden helped maintain the offensive intensity the entire game, recording a goal and an assist to go with his two shots.
The men's soccer team return to Mid-South Conference play this weekend, facing Campbellsville University in a home contest to played on the KSU-Marietta Campus Intramural Field Saturday, October 2 at 1 PM.
