OMAHA, Neb. ---- The (RV) Life University women's volleyball team returns to Georgia after a 3-1 showing at the College of St. Mary Labor Day Classic that took place Friday and Saturday at two sites in Nebraska and South Dakota.
The Running Eagles started the tournament with a 3-1 loss to No. 3 nationally ranked Midland before bouncing back with a 3-0 win over Hastings on Friday. Using the momentum from the sweep, the team downed Dakota State 3-0 before finishing off with a 3-1 win over (RV) Columbia (Mo.).Â
Over the weekend, Life U improved to 11-1 overall and statistically had one of the best weekends in program history. The Running Eagles averaged 14.14 kills per set over the four matches with a .231 hitting percentage. They also averaged 12.71 assists per set, 1.57 blocks per set, 1.36 service aces per set and 15.14 digs per set.
The women played a total of 14 sets and managed 198 kills with 178 assists. They put together 19 service aces and 212 digs on top of 22 total blocks. They limited their opponents to 154 kills, 177 digs and 194 points to the 239 from the Running Eagles.
Individually for the weekend,
Madison Evans led the offense with 52 kills and a .244 hitting percentage. She added three block assists and averaged 3.71 kills per set.
Fayola Louis finished with 34 kills and four block assists and a pair of solo blocks.
Mary Zimmerman totaled 33 kills with a .410 hitting percentage and six block assists with two solo blocks.
Lena Pucnik also finished well with 31 kills and five service aces with 35 digs.
Jessie Prichard continued to run the powerful Running Eagle offense with 154 assists, 43 digs, 13 kills, four total blocks and a service ace. She averaged 11 assists per set.
Marin Black finished the tournament with 65 digs and a service ace as well.
Savannah Keener led Life U from the service line with seven aces and picked up 17 digs.
The Life U team has earned its way nationally into numerous categories after the 11-1 start. The team is currently seventh in assists (517), tenth in kills (562), tenth in service aces (90), 12th in kills per set (13.71), 12th in assists per set (12.61) and 14th in digs (669).
The women's volleyball team will begin Mid-South Conference play this week as they travel to Georgetown, Ky. to face Georgetown College on Wednesday, September 8, at 6 PM.
