(RV) Men's Volleyball Open 2022 with 3-1 Win over Edward Waters

ALPHARETTA, Ga. ---- The (RV) Life University men's volleyball team opened the 2022 season Friday night at the A5 Sportsplex in Alpharetta against NCAA DII Edward Waters College, where the Running Eagles came away with the 3-1 win.

Life U led Edward Waters in every statistical category, as the Running Eagles jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the match. Life U won the first two sets 25-22 and 25-18. The Tigers answered back in the third set as they capitalized on early errors to lead 9-1 in the set. Life U battled its way back to just a one point match, 24-23, before a service error extended the match to a fourth set. The Running Eagles never trailed in the fourth set as they rolled to a 25-18 win and 3-1 match win over the Tigers.

Edward Waters finished with 45 kills and 23 attacking errors on 118 attempts for a .186 hitting percentage. The Tigers finished with five service aces, seven total blocks, 43 assists and 39 digs.

Life U totaled 55 kills with just 18 attacking errors on 117 attempts for a .316 hitting percentage. The Running Eagles added eight service aces, 12 total blocks, 53 assists and 43 digs.

Individually, Felipe Gonzalez and Ryan Ollie led the Running Eagles with 11 kills each. Gonzalez finished with a .348 hitting percentage and added five digs, a block assist and a solo block. Ollie finished the match with a .296 hitting percentage and added three block assists with a pair of digs. Diego Perez added nine kills and a .615 hitting percentage with four block assists, four digs and a pair of service aces. Josh Henson also finished with nine kills and added a pair of service aces, three block assists, three digs and a solo block. Alex Cabana added six kills with a team-high three service aces, four block assists, two solo blocks and three digs. Javier Cornier tallied a team-high 25 assists with seven digs as Jonathan Lemos added 19 assists with a service aces and five digs. Alexis Prado also finished the match with seven digs and zero reception errors. 

The men's volleyball team will return to action on Tuesday, February 1, when they travel to Fort Valley, Ga. to face Fort Valley State University at 5 PM.
