Women's Basketball Overcome in Second Half by Shawnee State at Home

MARIETTA, Ga. ---- Despite leading at the half, the Life University women's basketball team fell to Shawnee State University Thursday night at home in Mid-South Conference Action 55-43.

Life U (6-14, 2-10) led Shawnee State (4-10, 3-7) 23-21 at the half after a 15-9 lead in the first quarter. The Bears outscored the Running Eagles 34-20 in the second half to earn the 55-43 victory in the Eagles' Nest. 

Shawnee State finished 19-58 (32.8%) from the floor during the game and were just 5-22 (22.7%) from behind the arc. The Bears were 12-15 (80%) from the free-throw line and totaled just 14 turnovers as a team. They added 24 points in the paint and 14 points off Life U turnovers. They also tallied 16 steals as a team with 10 assists and 33 rebounds.

Life U finished 17-57 (29.8%) from the floor and were 3-23 (13%) from beyond the arc. The Running Eagles were 6-10 (60%) from the charity stripe and totaled 28 points in the paint. Life U won the battle of the boards over Shawnee State 52-33 and scored 14 points off turnovers. The team finished with 26 turnovers and just two steals with 13 assists.

Rachel Wilson led the way offensively for the Running Eagles with 15 points and 12 rebounds and a block. Eva Caroline Singleton was one rebound shy of the double-double with 10 points and nine rebounds. Lenise Santiago added six points with three assists as Sienna Bailey finished with five points and a pair of assists with five rebounds. 

The women's basketball team will return to action on Saturday, January 29, when they host No. 1 nationally ranked Thomas More University in the Eagles' Nest at 2 PM in Mid-South Conference action.
