MARIETTA, Ga. ---- The Life University women's basketball team fell 68-52 Thursday night at home to Lindsey Wilson in a tough contest that saw the lead change nine times. Despite having a one point advantage heading to the fourth quarter, the Running Eagles were outlasted by the Blue Raiders in Mid-South Conference action.
Life U came out shooting 60% from the floor and a perfect 6-6 from the free-throw line in the first quarter to take an early 19-16 lead. They continued that run in the second quarter out to five, 26-21, with 6:40 on the clock. Lindsey Wilson answered immediately with a 9-0 run to take the 30-26 advantage. The Running Eagles finished the quarter on a 4-2 run to trail 32-30 at the half.
The third quarter saw both teams jockeying for position, as the Blue Raiders led 42-38 with 2:57 remaining. Life U finished the quarter on a 5-0 run to take a one-point lead, 43-42, heading into the final ten minutes. Lindsey Wilson started the quarter on a 15-1 run, and held the lead the remainder of the way. The Blue Raiders outscored the Running Eagles 26-9 down the stretch to earn the win.
Lindsey Wilson finished 25-64 (39.1%) from the floor and 8-22 (36.4%) from behind the arc. They were a perfect 10-10 from the free-throw line and added 22 points in the paint with 21 points off turnovers. The Blue Raiders won the battle on the glass with a 37-28 advantage, and had just nine turnovers with eight steals.Â
Life U finished 20-45 (44.4%) from the floor and 5-19 from beyond the arc. The Running Eagles were 7-10 from the free-throw line and added 26 points in the paint. Life U committed 18 turnovers in the game with five blocks and three steals, as well as 12 total assists.
Tanit Calsapeu led the Running Eagles offensively with 12 points and a pair of assists.
Lenise Santiago added 11 points as
Olivia Delk finished with 10 points, seven rebounds, two assists and a block.
Rachel Wilson added nine points with eight rebounds and two blocks as
Anteria Evans totaled a team-high five assists.
The women's basketball team will return to Mid-South Conference action on Thursday, January 13, when they travel to Georgetown, Ky. to face Georgetown College at 6 PM.Â
