MOBILE, Ala. --- Saturday's road Southern States Athletic Conference game ended poorly for the Running Eagles, the women's volleyball team falling in straight sets to host, Mobile.
The current tough stretch in conference play for Life U (6-7, 3-5 SSAC) continued today as the team suffered a loss to a surprisingly strong Mobile (15-5, 7-1 SSAC) squad. Some of the main deciders in the contest were kills and aces, the Rams leading comfortably in both stats 37-27 and 13-4, respectively. The Running Eagles did a good job of picking up attacks, holding a lead in digs, 46-43.
The first two sets went strongly against Life U, the Running Eagles having a hard time pulling momentum onto their side or stringing together good volleys. The team's best run in the first set was a 4-0 stretch that ended on a
Jade Watson kill to pull the team to within 14-10, while the second set's best run saw back-to-back
Fayola Louis kills that pulled the team to a 12-8 deficit. Mobile found ways to respond both times, winning the first set 25-16 and second 25-14.
The second set saw the Running Eagles best opportunity to record a set victory, and opening 5-0 run that ended with a
Kennedy Neal ace pushing the team to an early 5-1 lead. The Running Eagles maintained their lead through the mid set and fought back and forth with the Rams in the later section, Watson striking home a kill to even things up 21-21. From that point, Life U gave up a 4-0 run to the Rams to lose the set 25-21 and match 3-0.
The Running Eagles return to the friendly confines of the Life U Upper Gym for their next contest, a conference match against Brewton-Parker Tuesday at 6 PM.
