Game Recap: Women's Volleyball | | Coy Gill

Women's Volleyball Bests Brewton-Parker at Home, 3-1

Marietta, Ga. --- The Life University women's volleyball team got back on the right side of the win-loss column tonight, beating Brewton-Parker 3-1 in Southern States Athletic Conference play in the Life U Upper Gym.

A short-staffed Life U (7-7, 4-5 SSAC) did enough to overcome Brewton-Parker (1-14, 1-7 SSAC) and get closer to .500 in conference play.

The first set ended quickly in the favor of the Running Eagles as the team put together a very cleanly played set, going on extended runs on their way to a 25-9 set victory. The team finished the first with an awesome .414 hitting percentage combined, striking home 15 kills to just two for BPC, the final coming off the hand of Fayola Louis.

Rotating in more subs over the course of the second set, plentiful unforced Life U errors saw the Barons take a lead that the Running Eagles could never fully bridge. The biggest difference between the teams in the set came on the serve, Life U allowing BPC to land six aces in the period while the Running Eagles gave away six points on serves of their own. Another ace by the Barons tying the game at a set a piece as the Running Eagles took a 25-18 set loss.

Life U remained shaky on the serve in the third set, but a more efficient attack helped them maintain a lead throughout. It was a particularly good set for Macey Sipmann, as the transfer sophomore rocked four kills past the block on a .429 hitting percentage. After a Kennedy Neal ace put the team ahead by eight, 18-10, the teams traded points back-and-forth until an attack error by the Barons ended the set 25-18.

The fourth set started with a continuation of the trend of the third set, the teams sitting at 6-6 early. A 7-0 run by the Running Eagles blew the set open, Liliann Cox recording a pair of aces and a kill during the run. The set saw Chloe Teter's best set of the game, posting four kills on a .667 hitting percentage. The team's traded blows through the majority of the rest of the set, Cox ending the set, 25-15, and game, 3-1, with an ace.

The Running Eagles host Talladega next, facing them this Saturday at 2 PM.
