Volleyball Blanks Middle Georgia 3-0

COCHRAN, Ga. — The Life University women's volleyball team won its third straight match Friday, dominating Southern States Athletic Conference foe Middle Georgia for its second 3-0 victory against the Knights this season.

The Running Eagles (9-7, 6-5 SSAC) escaped a first set battle against Middle Georgia (5-11, 2-9 SSAC) before taking charge and besting the Knights 3-0 Friday night. Life University earned a solid .407 attack percentage over all three sets, while MGA struggled on the attack with an average of .196. In the one-sided affair, every positive statistical category fell in favor of the Running Eagles, as Life U led 7-4 in aces, 5-2 in blocks and 35-22 in assists. Morgan Furness and Fayola Louis were the top attack earners for the Running Eagles, as Louis raked in ten kills while Furness produced eight. Additionally, Furness had a perfect 1.000 hit percentage.

In the opening set, the Running Eagles held a 16-10 lead before the Knights cut the deficit back to one (20-19) towards the end of set one. Rallies at the end of the set went back and forth until a MGA attacking error and service ace by by Amanda Ray gave the Running Eagles a 28-26 set one win.

The second set saw Life University begin to take control of the match, as four aces fueled the 25-20 set win. The Knights battled to keep the set close until 16-12, but a 9-2 run propelled the Running Eagles to a 2-0 set lead. The final three points were set by Morgan Lee, assisting Morgan Furness once and Fayola Louis twice to end the set in Life U's favor, 25-20.

The third set opened well for the Knights, earning the first point in two of the three Friday night sets, but the momentum Life University built towards the end of the second set continued into the third as the final set of the contest was the most one-sided, 25-14.

After trailing 1-0 to begin the set, the Running Eagles turned it around and jumped back to a quick 12-5 advantage before the lead was then narrowed back to four after a service ace, 15-11.  The Running Eagles were again fueled by another late 10-3 run, ending things with three consecutive points and a Chloe Teter kill to wrap up the contest, 25-14.

Life U remains on the road for another conference match tomorrow with a contest at Brewton Parker.
