MARIETTA, Ga. — The Life University women's soccer team won its second Southern States game of the season Saturday afternoon in a 3-2 win over Dalton State College. Three different scorers impacted the game, with Thora Hreggvidsdottir scoring the eventual game winner in the 60th minute.
Anakah Madril and Jeanne Brigand both scored in the contest, now both registering goals in two consecutive games. Sophomore Thora Hreggvidsdottir scored the final goal of the contest, as Nellie Pedersen joined in on the action with an assist on the eventual game winner. Both Brigand's and Madril's goals were unassisted in the 3-2 win over Dalton State.
Life U (4-5-1, 2-2-1 SSAC) fell behind early as the Roadrunners opened the scoring in the 2nd minute with a quick win and goal into the side netting. Anakah Madril then tied the contest back at one apiece in the 29th as a big win and lofted shot from the sideline landed in the net, 1-1.
The team then took the lead just a few moments later with Jeanne Brigand's goal in the 31st minute.
The Running Eagles dominated the first half after the initiial goal, limiting the Badgers to a single shot while firing seven shots (and scoring two) in the first half.
After the half, the Running Eagles continued the strong offensive performance netting a third goal in the 60th minute.
Life's only assisted goal of the game came from long through ball from Nellie Pedersen. Pedersen's perfectly weighted long ball found the foot of Thora Hreggvidsdottir. Ensuing fancy footwork and a stellar shot then beat the Dalton State keeper to go ahead 3-1 in the conference contest.
The Running Eagles did have a late scare in the 72nd minute when the Roadrunners narrowed the gap 3-2, but the team held on to win the contest.
Starting goalkeeper Grace Staunton faced six shots on goal, recording four saves, including back-to-back saves in the 83rd minute to maintain the Life U lead.
"Girls made hard work of it again," said Interim Head Coach Matthew Perry. "I'm proud of the resilience they showed, and I'm looking forward to being on the road for the next two!"
Life University will look to build on its momentum this Thursday, October 20th, when the team travels to Talladega College. Kickoff in Talladega is slated for 3 p.m.
