Talladega, Al. — The Life University women's soccer team cruised past the Tornadoes from Talledega College 12-0 to win the team's third straight contest.
The Running Eagles (5-5-2, 3-2-1 SSAC) capitalized with goals from six different players, routing the Tornadoes 12-0 on Thursday afternoon.
The scoring began in the fourth minute when Rebecca Noren netted the opening goal, 1-0. Life U. midfielder Anakah Madril delivered the second goal later in the 20th minute, finding her (then) fifth of the season and doubling Life's lead, 2-0.
The scoring frenzy continued just moments later as Madril and leading goal scorer Thora Hreggvidsdottir scored another pair of goals, 4-0.
The Running Eagles went on to pile 18 shots in the first half as the Talladega defense continued to concede, allowing two more goals before the end of the period.
Taking the game to halftime, Life University led the Tornadoes 6-0, with Justine Kuiper and Sarah Slingluff scoring the final goals of the half in the 36th and 37th minute. Kuiper scored off a penalty, while Slingluffs came in free play.
Unsatisfied with a 6-0 edge, Justine Kuiper resumed the onslaught in the second half, scoring her second goal of the contest in the 49th.
Back-to-back goals from Hreggvidsdottir scored Life U's eighth and ninth goal in the 51st and 53rd minute, before junior Johanna Altheden netted her first goal of the season and second of her career in the 68th, 10-0.
Life University's next goal came down the stretch in the 79th minute when Agnes Birta Stefansdottir combined with Anakah Madril to score Madril's third goal of the game, all off sweet feeds from Stefansdottir.
The Running Eagles' final goal of the game was a career first as freshman Abigail Herron scored in the 82nd minute.
The dominant Running Eagle defensive performance limited the Tornadoes to just one shot on goal in the contest, with Talladega failing to win a single corner throughout the duration of play.
Life U goalkeepers Grace Staunton and Lisset Fernanda Ruiz split the contest, as Staunton received the win and the start.
Talladega goalkeeper Kimberly Rigsby put up a valiant effort in the defeat, making nine saves in 53 minutes.
"Three in a row now with a professional performance from the girls," interim Head Coach Matthew Perry said. "Good to get everyone minutes. Looking forward to Saturday."
