Women's Soccer Fall In Final Moments to Mobile, 2-1

MARIETTA, Ga. --- The Life University women's soccer team looked to be heading towards a tie, but a score in the final seconds by Mobile saw the Running Eagles suffer another Southern States Athletic Conference loss Sunday afternoon at Lupo Family Field.

Life U (2-5-2, 0-2-1 SSAC) continue to search for their first conference victory despite controlling the game's pace over the majority of the contest against Mobile (7-2-2, 3-0-0 SSAC). The Running Eagles held massive advantages in both shots and corner kicks, leading 27-6 and 9-0 respectively. Despite the large difference in shots taken, Life U's edge in shots on goal was much closer at only 9-5. Fouls and cards were close in the game, Life U being called on more fouls at 12-10, while Mobile earned the only card of the day.

The pace of the game was quickly determined by the Running Eagles to start the game, Jeanne Brigand putting a shot on frame in the first five minutes. The Life U defense only allowed for two shots by the Rams in the first 45 minutes, both of which were on frame, but goal keeper Grace Staunton stopped both attempts. The Running Eagles continously got shots off in the half, but the teams went into the break tied up at 0-0.

It took more than half of the second frame for the first score to be recorded, Thora Hreggvidsdottir taking a ball from Brigand that she shot in to take a 1-0 lead in the 69th minute. With less than six minutes to play, the Rams knotted things up with a score of their own. As the final 10 seconds of the game started to run off, the game seemingly on its way to a 1-1 tie, Mobile broke through on the attack and netted a goal to send the Running Eagles to a heart breaking 2-1 loss.

Assistant coach, Matt Perry spoke on how the game finished, "Soccer is a really cruel game. The girls totally dominated for 85 minutes and deserved a lot more. We didn't take our chances when it was 1-0 and ultimately were punished." Looking forward, Perry said, "This group is tough though and we will bounce back that's for sure!"

The Running Eagles play on the road for their next game, facing Faulkner this Thursday at 6 PM.
