Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | Coy Gill

Life U Runs Past Talladega on the Road, 9-0

TALLADEGA, Ala. --- It did not take long for the No. 18 Life University men's soccer team to take control of their Thursday evening contest at Talladega College, Bart Kooistra and Jaime Gonzalez both recording a pair of goals in the 9-0 conference, road victory.

In Life U's (9-2-1, 3-2-1 SSAC) best offensive showing of the season, the team rolled up 21 shots to only five for the home Talladega (0-8-0, 0-6-0 SSAC) Tornadoes. With the Running Eagles limiting Talladega's shooting opportunities, it comes as no surprise that the team trailed in saves accrued, 6-2. The offensive pressure from the Running Eagles saw the team take a commanding lead in corner kicks, 5-1.

The game opened quickly for the Running Eagles, Kooistra getting things started with a shot that was assisted by Danny DeLorijn in the eighth minute. The first half saw two more goals recorded by Life U players, the first a Matteo Olivotto goal from Jinwoo Kang and the second an unassisted score by Jaime Gonzalez to give the Running Eagles a 3-0 lead heading into the break.

Just over a minute into the restart, DeLorijn got in on the scoring, netting a goal of his own to push the lead to 4-0. It took over 10 minutes for the next Running Eagles score to connect, but once it did the flood gates opened, the team running off five goals in a 20 minute span. The scoring frenzy saw goals come from five unique players, Kooistra earning his second of the night before being followed up by Ramy Katit, Gonzalez, Thierry Jules, and Callum Jenkins. With the lead at 9-0 the Running Eagles slowed things down to see the game end at a 9-0 decision.

Head Coach Alex Pama was pleased with how both starters and reserves performed in the game. "Great win for the guys. Many different guys scoring goals." Pama finished saying, "Great to give some starters a rest the second half with the game versus Blue Mountain coming up so short after this game."

The Running Eagles stay on the road for their next contest, traveling to Blue Mountain College for a 4:30 PM EST contest.
