Babson Park, Fla. --- The Life University women's lacrosse team started slow on the road at Mid-South Conference foe Webber International, but pushed through for the run away victory 22-7 to start the conference season Saturday afternoon.
No. 3 Life U (3-0, 1-0 MSC) played both its first road and conference game of the season, facing Webber International (0-2, 0-1 MSC). The game started poorly for Life U, the Warriors taking an early 3-0 lead, before the Running Eagles ended the first quarter on a 4-0 run ro head into the second with a 5-4 lead. Life U extended its streak into the second quarter running off five more scores to start the period as the lead grew to 10-4 at the 9:48 mark.
Brianna Freeman scored three goals from that point until the halftime break as the Running Eagles advantage stood at 16-6 headed into the break.
The Running Eagles did not allow a Webber score in the third period, opening up a 5-0 run that spanned from the third period into the fourth. After the lead grew to 21-6 early in the final quarter of play, the teams traded scores to give the final of 22-7.
Life U held a strong advantage in both shots taken 39-17 and turnovers 13-26. With the amount of shots put on the Warriors goal keeper, Webber held a strong edge in saves earned at 13-4. The Running Eagles were nearly perfect on clear attempts going 17-for-18 while Webber was just a little worse at 14-for-18.
Freeman recorded the most goals for the Running Eagles posting six while also earning an assist, while
Nicole Ortiz followed her closely with four goals and an assist.
Maria Arvizu matched Ortiz with five points, scoring three goals to go with a pair of assists.
Lacy Legaspi and
Alyssa Curto were the only other Running Eagles to score multiple goals, both recording two, Legaspi adding an assist to her goal. Other players to earn a goal include:
