MARIETTA, Ga. ---- The (RV) Life University men's volleyball team bounced back with a come from behind win Saturday morning, as the Running Eagles won the final three sets to defeat Warner University 3-2 at home in Mid-South Conference action.
Warner, (0-2, 0-2) jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the match after winning the first two sets 25-19 and 25-23. Life U (2-1, 1-1) trailed 7-6 in the third set, before an 8-1 run was finished with a kill from
Ryan Ollie to give the Running Eagles a 14-8 advantage. Trailing 23-16, Warner used a 4-1 run to cut the lead to four, 20-24, before a kill from
Josh Henson won Life U the set 25-20.Â
Warner led for the entire fourth set before a 9-2 run from Life U was finished on a kill from
Diego Martinez to give the Running Eagles a 20-15 lead, and forcing the Royals to take a timeout. Out of the break Warner got the point, but a kill from Perez and block from Perez and Henson gave the Running Eagles a commanding 22-16 lead. Warner answered with a kill and three straight service aces to bring the match to within two, 22-20 forcing a timeout from Life U. The break proved to be critical as Henson answered with a kill,
Alex Cabana and Ollie picked up the block and Henson finished the set with a kill to send the match to a fifth set, 25-20.Â
To start the fifth set, Life U jumped out to a 5-2 lead, but a 5-2 run from Warner tied the set at seven. Life U answered with three straight points on an attack error and a pair of blocks to take the 10-7 lead, and force a timeout from Warner. The Royals answered with a 3-1 run to bring the match to within one, 11-10. Life U closed out the set on a 4-0 run with a kill from Ollie, a solo block from Cabana, a block from
Javier Cornier and Cabana and an attack error to win the match 15-10.Â
Warner finished the match with 56 kills and a .179 attacking percentage due to 30 attack errors. The Royals led the match with eight service aces and 55 assists with eight blocks. They also had 47 digs with 19 service errors.
Life U totaled 55 kills with a .243 hitting percentage and 22 attack errors. The Running Eagles led 16-8 in blocks and 52-47 in digs with a pair of service aces. They finished with just 12 service errors and added 24 block assists.Â
Individually,
Josh Henson led the way for the Running Eagles on a double-double with 14 kills and 11 digs with three block assists and a service ace.
Ryan Ollie also picked up the double-double with 12 kills and a team-high 13 digs and four block assists on a .320 hitting percentage.
Diego Martinez also finished in double figures with 11 kills and a block assist with four digs and a .440 hitting percentage.
Alex Cabana tallied seven kills, but tallied seven block assists with four solo blocks.
Alexis Prado tallied 12 digs for the Running Eagles as
Javier Cornier totaled 42 assists with four block assists.Â
The men's volleyball team will return to action on Tuesday, February 8, when they host Carolina University inside the Eagles' Nest on campus at 7 PM.
