PULASKI, Tenn. ---- The Life University women's basketball team was unable to overcome its turnovers Monday night, as they fell to the University of Tennessee Southern 57-45 in Mid-South Conference road action.
Tennessee Southern (14-9, 9-8) outscored the Running Eagles in every quarter except the fourth. Tennessee Southern outscored Life U (6-19, 2-15) 17-10 in the first quarter and 15-10 in the second quarter to lead 32-20. The third quarter was closer, however the Firehawks still outscored the Running Eagles 14-13. Life U was able to edge out Tennessee Southern in the fourth quarter 12-11, but were unable to cut into the early deficit.
Tennessee Southern finished 23-75 (30.7%) from the floor and 5-29 (17.2%) from three. The Firehawks were 6-11 (54.5%) from the charity stripe and totaled 26 points in the paint. They were able to capitalize 25 points off of 30 Life U turnovers in the game and added 17 bench points. The Firehawks finished with just seven turnovers and added 15 steals with five blocks and 34 rebounds.
Life U shot 18-44 (40.9%) from the floor and 4-14 (28.6%) from three. The Running Eagles were 5-9 (55.6%) from the free-throw line and added 20 points in the paint. They finished with 31 rebounds and 13 assists with a block and a steal on 30 turnovers.
No Running Eagles finished in double figures during the game, however both
Eva Caroline Singleton and
Rachel Wilson finished with a team-high nine points. Singleton added four assists with three rebounds as Wilson tallied a team-high eight rebounds with a pair of assists and the team's lone steal of the game.
Lenise Santiago added eight points with three rebounds.
The women's basketball team will return to action on Thursday, February 10, when they host No. 3 nationally ranked Campbellsville University inside the Eagles' Nest for a MSC matchup at 6 PM.
