Women's Lacrosse Shuts Out Point in 23-0 Home Victory

MARIETTA, Ga. --- The No. 3 Life University women's lacrosse team earned a run away home victory over Point University 23-0 tonight in Lupo Family Field as three different Running Eagles recorded hat tricks on the night.

Life U (2-0) expressed its dominance early in the competition, pushing the game into a running clock by the end of the first quarter of play. 10 different Life U players got in on the first period scoring, all 10 goals being recorded by different players. In the second quarter, Life U started trying to slow down the pace, dropping their scoring total in the period to five goals with two of them being provided by Erika Morgan as the teams went into the break Life U leading 15-0.

Coming out of the break, the Running Eagles maintained at a steady pace scoring six third quarter goals with the no one doubling up during the period as the lead extended to 21-0. The Running Eagles only scored twice in the final quarter of play to give the final score of 23-0.

In such a lopsided game, the stats heavily favored Life U, the team only allowing the Skyhawks to take one shot over the course of the competition compared to the Running Eagles 43. Life U also played aggressively on defense, keeping the ball in front of them or tipping it away as they held Point to converting on 5-for-22 on clears and forcing the team into 24 turnovers, while picking up more ground balls at 25-7.

Many players were able to put together great days statistically, Kelly Beshaw leading the way with a hat trick to go with five ground balls and two caused turnovers. Maria Arvizu and Erika Morgan also recorded hat tricks, with Arvizu also contributing three caused turnovers and a pair of ground balls. Five Running Eagles scored a pair of goals, being Olivia Andrews, Brianna Freeman, Angie Forbes, Nina Sutton, and Sandra Wright. Besides her two goals, Andrews also assisted on a pair of goals and grabbed two ground balls. The other players to score included: Lacy Legaspi, Lexi Santiago, Peyton Sanders, and Annaliese Froese. Nicole Ortiz and Leanne Windon caused the Skyhawks' offense a lot of issues both of them causing five turnovers, while Ortiz also picked up four ground balls.

The Running Eagles are on the road this weekend, facing Mid-South Conference foe (RV) Webber International Saturday, February 12th at 3:30 PM.
