MARIETTA, Ga. --- In its second game against a receiving votes team in as many days, the Life University women's volleyball team suffered a hard fought, 3-1 loss to (RV) William Carey Saturday afternoon in Southern States Athletic Conference play.
Despite suffering a loss, Life U (5-4, 2-2 SSAC) earned more kills than William Carey (17-0, 5-0 SSAC), leading the statistic 47-46, but trailing in attack percentage .090-.220. The Running Eagles also took slight leads in aces, 4-3, and digs, 57-55, but had a decided disadvantage in blocks, 14-5.
The first set opened with neither team creating much in the way of separation, but Life U kept momentum on their side of the court, pushing the lead to 8-4 after a 3-0 run that ended in a
Emilee Brown kill. William Carey pulled back into things in the middle of the set, taking a lead 19-17 late. A 7-1 stretch by the Running Eagles that ended in back-to-back service aces by
Savannah Keener had the team at the brink of winning the first set, 24-20. After a 3-0 run pulled William Carey within one, a service error saw Life U take set one 25-23.
The Running Eagles came out looking to continue that momentum in the second set, again holding an early 8-4 lead after kills by Lilian Cox and
Chloe Teter. From that point things started turning in the favor of William Carey, multiple extended runs seeing them take a lead that they would not relinquish, winning the second set 25-19. In the third set, Life U tied things in up in the middle at 10-10 after a
Morgan Furness kill, but never took a lead losing again by a score of 25-19. The fourth and final set, Life u fell behind quickly and never really managed to threaten to tie things up, losing the set 25-15 and match 3-1.
The Running Eagles stay in conference play for their next game, returning home for a contest against Blue Mountain College Friday, September 23 at 6 PM.
