Men's Soccer Record Tough Victory Over (RV) LSU-Shreveport, 1-0

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. --- Life University men's soccer's early season excellence continued today, the Running Eagles toughing out a 1-0 victory over (RV) LSU-Shreveport Saturday evening in a neutral site game on the campus of Georgia Gwinnett.

With another victory under their belt, Life U (4-0) again extends their program best start, while LSU-S (2-1-1) suffered their first loss of the season. The game played out as a defensive battle, the teams combining for only 13 total shots, Life U leading 8-5, while LSU-S held a slight edge in corner kicks at 7-6. Due to the Running Eagles getting more shots on frame, the Pilots held a 4-3 edge in saves. Unsurprisingly for such a hard fought, physical game, the teams came out rather evenly in regards to the refs, LSU-S being called on more fouls at 15-14, while Life U received more cards at 4-3.

The game's only score came quickly, Bart Kooistra taking the ball away from a Pilot defender deep in LSU-S territory and then ripping a shot by the goal keeper to take a 1-0 lead in the 16th minute. Despite the Running Eagles only getting one more shot off over the first half, the defense did a great job holding LSU-S scoreless, Luka Zakarija earning a pair of saves to see the period end 1-0 in Life U's favor.

The second 45 minutes started with Zakarija earning his third save of the game in the opening minutes of the half. After that shot on frame, Life U only allowed the Pilots one more shot, expressing their dominance on the defensive side to pull off the 1-0 victory.

Coach Alex Pama appreciated his team's ability to grit out the win against quality competition. "A very tough win versus a very strong opponent for our guys tonight. We were missing several players due to injuries, but we know our bench is deep and other guys stepped up to the plate tonight." Looking forward, Pama stated, "We now recover tomorrow, watch our reserve team play and prepare for Monday. Another tough, strong opponent."

The next game will also be played on the campus of Georgia Gwinnett, the Running Eagles facing Point Univ. Monday at 2 PM.
