MARIETTA, Ga. --- The Life University faced a top-10 Southern States Athletic Conference foe Friday night, dropping the game to No. 5 William Carey 7-2.
Life U (2-4-2, 0-1-1 SSAC) found themselves on the wrong side of the scoreboard against William Carey (6-2-1, 2-0-0 SSAC), having a hard time matching the Crusaders on the attack as they trailed 28-12 in shots taken. The Running Eagles led in saves 8-4 and corner kicks 3-2, while also coming out on the better side of the referee's in fouls, 15-11, and cards, 2-1.
Life U had some good looks early, putting some pressure on the William Carey back line over the opening minutes of the game. The Crusaders started to exert their dominance in the game in the 14th minute, going on a 3-0 run over just four minutes.
Anakah Madril followed that up with a goal after one of the game's few corner kicks, collecting a ball from
Thora Hreggvidsdottir and blasting it in for the score to see the score at 3-1. One more William Carey goal late in the half saw the teams head to the break with Life U trailing 4-1.
The second half saw the deficit continue to grow for the Running Eagles, William Carey posting another goal in the opening minute of the half. In the 53rd minute, Life U recorded another score, Lilja Olafsdottir scoring off a free kick. The rest of the game saw the Crusaders post two more goals to take the game 7-2.
The Running Eagles stay home for their next game, facing conference opponent Univ. of Mobile Sunday at 1 PM.
