Women's Basketball Seccumbs to Brewton-Parker

MARIETTA, Ga. — The Life University women's basketball team fell to the Barons from Brewton-Parker Saturday afternoon, falling 77-65 after carrying a one-point lead into halftime.

Kierra York led the Running Eagles (11-7, 4-5 SSAC) for the second, straight, game, again registering a double-double with 13 points and 14 rebounds. Additionally, Tierra Tullis came off the bench to produce solid numbers, recording six assists and tabbing a team-high 14 points.

In the first quarter, both teams got off to slow starts with the Running Eagles holding a slim 10-8 lead over Brewton-Parker after ten minutes of play. The second quarter was again close, with the Barons almost carrying a lead to the break.

With less than a minute to go, Brewton-Parker led 28-27, but, with the clock running down, Eva Caroline Singleton was fouled and knocked down both free throws to carry the small 29-28 advantage into the break.

To begin the third quarter, a good jumper from BPC instantly eliminated the Life U. lead, but on the next possession, the Running Eagles retook the lead with three consecutive offensive boards finally getting capped with a Sienna Bailey and-one.

Bailey sank the ensuing free throw, leading to a third quarter with seven lead changes. After 30 minutes of action, the Barons would take their first lead to a break, heading to the fourth quarter leading 50-47.

The final period of action was the most lopsided as the Barons outscored the Running Eagles 27-18. Brewton-Parker claimed five offensive boards in the quarter and made 8-11 from the line, all while shooting a solid 9-18 from the field.

BPC guard Madison Evans scored 10 of her 24 points in the fourth quarter alone, as the Running Eagles struggled to find an answer on the boards giving up multiple opportunities. Additionally, Life U. shot a wretched 3-8 from the line, including four consecutive misses with less than five minutes to play.

In the end, the Running Eagles held an advantage in fast break points and assists (15), but got out-rebounded (53-33), especially on the offensive boards (21-7) leading to a huge BPC advantage in second chance points (21-10). Another bright spot for Life U. was bench production as Tierra Tullis scored 14 points.

Up next, the Running Eagles will travel to Montgomery, Ala. this upcoming Thursday, Jan. 19th, to face the Faulkner University. Tipoff in Montgomery is set for 6:30 PM EST.
