MARIETTA, GA.– The Life University women's basketball team took on Talladega College Saturday afternoon, offensively outscoring the Tornadoes despite committing 19 turnovers.
The game started with Life U. making the first bucket and then going on an 8-2 run. The first quarter was marred with sloppy plays on both sides, six total turnovers. The Running Eagles' disruptive defense had the Lady Tornadoes shooting 25% from the field as they claimed a convincing 22-9 lead by the end of the quarter.
Starting the second quarter ahead by 13, the Running Eagles slowly began to lose their advantage. Poor shooting turned into converted baskets as both teams continued to struggle with 14 total turnovers in the second quarter.
Heading into halftime leading 35–26, the Running Eagles needed to just hold the lead to win the contest.
The start of the second half was physical, but as the Running Eagles competed, the advantage fell in favor of the Tornadoes, dominating the third quarter 21-12.
After once leading by as many as 13 in the first half, the Running Eagles found themselves tied with the Tornadoes at 47 apiece entering the fourth.
With both teams in a deadlock of a battle, the final quarter started with the Tornadoes gaining a two-point lead before the Running Eagles took over. A five-minute scoreless run for the Tornadoes was capitalized upon with Life U. turning the vacant minutes into an 8-0 run. After the run, the Running Eagles cruised the final three and a half minutes of play maintaining and growing the lead to the 15-point win.
The Running Eagles will be back in action Thursday, February 2nd, as they seek revenge against William Carey. The game starts at 6:30 p.m. ET in Hattiesburg, Mississippi.
