HATTIESBURG, MS. — The Life University women's basketball team fell 69-60 in a SSAC contest against William Carey on Thursday afternoon.
The contest proved to be a tale of two halves for the Running Eagles (13-10, 5-8 SSAC), falling behind in the first half by as many as 23 before ultimately using a second half comeback to bring the game to a final score of 69-60.
To start the game, the Running Eagles earned their largest and only lead of the game, rushing out of the gates to a hot 9-2 start. The Crusaders later took a 14-13 lead at the 3:10 mark in the opening frame, then held on for the remainder of the contest.
Second quarter action saw the Running Eagles' Tierra Tullis score seven of the team's ten points in the quarter. Heading to intermission, Life U trailed 45-23.
In the second half, the Running Eagle offense began to come alive as a rejuvenated defense held WC to 24 total points, including an abysmal nine point fourth quarter.
Though the offense came alive for Life U into the fourth, the Crusaders' 22 point first half lead was too much to overcome.
In the end, the Running Eagles cut a 22 point halftime deficit down to a nine point loss. Guard Tierra Tulles led all the Running Eagles with 17 points.
Up next, Life University remains on the road for another SSAC contest against Blue Mountain Christian University. Tipoff in Blue Mountain, MS is slated for 1 PM EST on Saturday.
