Game Recap: Women's Volleyball | | Nick Pope

Women's Volleyball Rolls to Two More SSAC Wins

GEORGIA — The Life University women's volleyball team played a pair of SSAC opponents over the weekend, competing against Middle Georgia on Friday and Brewton-Parker on Saturday.  In both matches, the Running Eagles were able to earn wins in three sets as both MGA and BPC failed to keep up with the efficient Life U attack.

Match 1: Middle Georgia 0, Life U 3

The Running Eagles began slowly against the skilled Middle Georgia team, having an early scare by dropping the first five points.  In that first set, Life U failed to string a run together early but eventually took the lead midway through the set after a 5-0 run. Carrying that momentum through the timeout, the Running Eagles won the opening frame 25-18. In the second set, the Running Eagles raced ahead to a stellar 9-2 advantage and quickly ended the set with a frame win, 25-16. The third set was again close through the early stages before the Running Eagles eventually broke through with a 5-0 run to claim a controlling 13-7 lead. The Running Eagles wrapped the set with a Destiny Washington service ace before a final attacking error from MGA concluded the sweep, 3-0.

Life U added up 46 kills and nine aces. Graduate student Je'Bria Green excelled, leading the team with 26 kills and a pair of aces.

Naomi Eckert Rivera recorded 35 assists.

Match 2: Brewton-Parker 0, Life U 3

The day after sweeping Middle Georgia, the  Running Eagles downed the Barons 3-0 to earn their eighth shutout win of the season. The women's team took the match with the first two sets with close frames (25-19) and (25-18), but the next set saw the Running Eagles tighten the attack and close the sweep with a 25-14 final set win.

Life U left the match with just 30 kills, but the attack was efficient only producing ten errors compared to BPC's 20. The Running Eagles played a 6-2 rotation as both Naomi Eckert-Rivera and Gabriella Rivera rotated primary setter duties. The attack was mutually shared as Destiny Washington (8), Chloe Teter (7), and  Fayola Louis (6) led the team in kills.

Up next, the Running Eagles return home to face Faulkner next weekend.
