MARIETTA, Ga -- The Life University Women's Volleyball team closed out their regular season Road schedule Monday night, besting the Tigers from Stillman College in a clean 3-0 sweep.
The Running Eagles controlled the match from the opening set, jumping ahead to a 5-0 lead before an eventual attacking error put the Tigers on the board. The Running Eagles began to slip midway through the first, but ultimately never trailed delivering an impressive, 25-14 set one lead capped by two kills from Sydney Gonzalez.
In the next set, the Running Eagles picked back up where they left off in the first, claiming a 2-0 lead. The Tigers did not go down without a fight though as the two teams battled throguheight lead changes in the second set before Life U finally broke through. The separation came midway through the second frame, after trailing 13 to 12, the Running Eagles went on an impressive 7-0 run split only by a Stillman timeout. The Tigers provided little pushback after the run, as the Running Eagles closed out the second frame 25-18
In the third, and what proved to be the final set, the Running Eagles used a 7-1 run to jump ahead 10-4. A Stillman timeout halted the charge, but the momentum remained in favor of Life U, 16-8. Again refusing to go down without a fight, Stillman recorded seven consecutive points, four of which were service aces, to bring the set to a slim 16 to 15 Life U lead. After this run the Running Eagles steadied the ship as two Jade Watson kills and a Victoria Davenport service ace concluded the contest 25-18.
