Men's Soccer Loses Hard-Fought Battle to UT Southern

PULASKI, TN. — The Life University men's soccer team fell 2-1 in conference play Thursday night. Conceding a goal late in the first half before the Running Eagles made chances and tied the game, ultimately leveling the match at one apiece before conceding the game-winning goal in the 83rd minute.

The Running Eagles and Firehawks both created chances in the first half, but it was UT Southern who broke the scoring in the 40th minute shortly after a pair of corners were sent into the box.

The Running Eagles then tied the contest in the second half after dominating the period sending 12 shots in final 45 alone. The game-tying goal was a composed Stephane Shongo shot into the bottom corner after Vuk Kristic won the ball in the attacking third and slotted the Freshman striker in towards goal.

After that, both teams continued to create chances as the game continued to become more and more heated. Both teams tallied three cards as Life was booked with two yellows and a red while UT Southern was hit with three yellows. Overall, the Running Eagles committed 15 fouls compared to the Firehawks ten.

In the 80th minute, the UT Southern offense was again threatening as the Running Eagles got caught on the wrong side of a challenge in the box, putting the home team on the mark with a chance to score the go-ahead goal. The Firehawks' striker sent the penalty wide, but the sigh of relief was shortly lived as UTS scored shortly after in the 83rd minute.

In the end, the Running Eagles out shot UTS 18-10, sent more shots on frame 10-5, and tallied more corners 6-5. Despite the advantages in the box score, the scoring woes continued for Life U, having now scored just two goals in their last three outings.

The Running Eagles will now look to get back in the win column this upcoming Saturday against Blue Mountain Christian University. The men's will also celebrate their Senior Day prior to the contest, set to begin at 6:30 pm et.
