LAKE WALES, Fla. - The Life U women's basketball team traveled to Lake Wales to compete in the SSAC/SUN Challenge and rolled past Warner University (Fla.) 76-60 on Thursday afternoon.
The win marked the team's second win of the season and first in the SSAC/SUN Challenge.Â
Life U scored the first basket of the game and from that point forward it became a battle to the end of the first quarter, but the Running Eagles ended up leading 19-15 at the end of the quarter.Â
Overall, nine different Running Eagles found points in the box score as twelve players saw action.
Three Running Eagles were in double figures with 16 points from Maikya Simmons, while graduate student Maeisha Teasley was excelling from the field, scoring 14 points and adding three rebounds and six steals. Andrea Martin Ruiz was also in double digits with ten points and added seven rebounds and six assists. Â
Life U took a 39-29 lead into the locker room after a tough first and second quarter. The Royals did battle back with a 17 point offensive explosion in the fourth quarter, but the Running Eagles lead was too much to overcome in the 16-point victory.
Up next, the Running Eagles will look to finish out the SSAC/SUN Challenge against College of Coastal Georgia. scheduled for tomorrow, Nov. 3rd at 2 p.m.
STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
- Deborah Powell played a solid all around game, scoring nine points with eight rebounds, one assists and zero turnovers.
- Simmons led the Running Eagles with 16 points on 8-15 shooting and five steals.
