MARIETTA, Ga. - The Life U women's basketball team defeated Middle Georgia State in SSAC play 87-65 Wednesday evening in the Eagles' Nest.
It was a balanced scoring attack for Life U as nine different players scored. Four Running Eagles reached double figures, as Maeisha Teasley led with 19 points and nine steals. Maikya Simmons reached 16 points, Laphina Campbell scored 14 points off the bench, and Andrea Martin Ruiz had 10 points.
Life U led for most of the first quarter. However, the Knights did give them a tough fight taking the lead twice, but it was not enough and the Running Eagles led on top going into the second quarter with a 21-18 lead.
The Running Eagles continued to battle it out with the Knights during the second quarter, but led by nine on a Teasley layup with 5:30 left in the half. From there, dominant play from both teams brought the game close again with Life U only leading 38-34 going into the break.
The third quarter saw the Running Eagles start to slowly pull away from the Knights and never looked back going into the fourth quarter. Life U pushed the lead over 20 points by the middle of the quarter. The lead stretched to as much as 24 late in the fourth quarter and MGA never got the score to under 20 points the rest of the way.
Up next, Life U will continue at home to host RV Brewton-Parker College in SSAC play on Saturday, December 2nd at 11 a.m.
TURNING POINT:
--Life U held an impressive 11-0 run in the beginning of the fourth quarter giving them a 23 point lead 77-54.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
--The Running Eagles continue to dominate with 28 of the 87 points coming off the bench.
-Life U's stifling defense grabbed 22 steals and had 34 points off of turnovers.
