MARIETTA, Ga. — The Life University men's basketball team used a second half surge to come from behind and remain undefeated in SSAC play, moving to 3-0 with a 79-69 win over Middle Ga. State Thursday evening.
Despite eventually finding a rhythm in the contest, the Running Eagles were down early against the Knights trailing by as many as seven in the first half. The contest began with both teams playing intense defense, leading to early foul trouble for the Running Eagles and turnovers for both teams. Headed to the break Life U trailed MGA 36-30.
In the second half, the Running Eagles were fueled by a sensational individual effort from Devin Story, scoring the team's first 12 points of the half and leading the team to a 42-42 tie. After that, unselfish basketball led to acrobatic dunks and lobs as the Running Eagles began firing on all cylinders to earn an 11 point lead, 67-56.
With just over five minutes to go a Dara Olonade alley oop from Elias Ramirez pushed the scoreline back to double digits as the Running Eagles cruised through the second half outscoring the Knights 49-33.
Overall, the Running Eagles were led by Devin Story who tallied 22 points on 8-13 from the field and 6-10 from behind the arc. Sophomore guard Shomik Shahjahan was vital to the team's second half comeback, finding the open man and making the unselfish play to lead the team with six assists without a turnover.
