Singleton Scores 22 in Loss to BPC

MT VERNON, Ga. — The Life University women's basketball team fell to Brewton-Parker Saturday afternoon, succumbing to the Barons 74-67.

The Running Eagles (17-8, 10-8 SSAC) were led in scoring by Caroline Singleton who scored a game-high 22 points, including a perfect 6-6 trip to the charity stripe. Other top performers include Tanit Calsapeu (12) and Tierra Tullis, scoring ten off the bench.

In the loss, the Running Eagles had a lead in the first half, but never grew it to more than five. At the half, the Running Eagles carried a two point lead into the locker room, 39-37.

In the second half, the two teams battled through the first ten minutes of the third quarter before a 51-all tie was broken by a pair of BPC free throws. After the successful trip to the line,  the Barons went on a 7-0 run to end the third and begin the fourth, 58-51.

The six-minute scoreless run came due to an 0-8 stretch of attempts including an 0-2 trip to the line. Trailing by ten with three minutes to play, the lead was too much to overcome as the Running Eagles had no answer for the hot scoring from Brewton-Parker.

In the end, the six minute scoreless stretch doomed the short-handed Running Eagles. Overall, the team struggled shooting 33.9% from the field and 22.2% from long range. With 30 attempts from the free throw line, the Running Eagles shot a solid 76.7% with 23 makes. Turnovers once again plagued Life U as 18 TOs resulted in 20 BPC points.

Up next, the Running Eagle swill take one final SSAC road trip to face William Carey and Loyola-LA next weekend.
