MOBILE, Ala. — The Life University women's basketball team earned a crucial win Thursday night, besting the Rams from Mobile in an important SSAC contest. The Running Eagles were led in scoring by Tierra Tullis, who scored a game high 24 points.
In the opening quarter, the Running Eagles earned a narrow two point lead in the final seconds as Andrea Martin Ruiz netted a pair of free throws with less than five seconds on the clock, 16-14.
The second quarter played out much like the first with the Running Eagles carrying a 33-29 lead into the break after a Tierra Tullis three point basket beat the buzzer. At the half, Tullis had 13 points on 5-8 shooting, including 1-1 from downtown.
The second half again fell in favor of the Running Eagles with the team pouring 24 points in the third quarter alone, getting to the free throw time a total of ten times in the frame and knocking down nine of them. Caroline Singleton provided the second half offensive spark, hitting all six of her attempted free throws in the third quarter. After thirty minutes, Life U led by seven, 57-50.
The final quarter of play saw the Running Eagles push their lead up to 15 with less than three minutes to play before ultimately cruising through the final minutes to maintain the double-digit 77-67 win.
Overall, Tullis shined in the conference contest with Singleton and Fapou Semebene both reaching double-digits. Semebene's dominant 16 point 14 rebound game came in a total of 24 minutes as the senior transfer shined off the bench for Life U.
Up next, the Running Eagles remain on the road with a difficult matchup against a ranked Loyola team that has won eight contests in a row. The Saturday SSAC matchup is set to begin at 1pm EST.
