Women's Lacrosse Wins Home Opener in Dominant Fashion over Georgetown, 16-3

MARIETTA, Ga. --- After getting off to a slow start, the Life University women's lacrosse responded in strong fashion, pulling away to claim a 16-3 victory over Georgetown College for the Running Eagle's home opener Tuesday afternoon.

Life U (2-0) keeps its strong start to the season going with the home win over Georgetown (0-1), holding strong leads in most statistical categories. The Running Eagles held massive advantages in shots taken at 46-16, caused turnovers 22-10, and ground balls 17-10. Life U was also much more successful on their clear attempts, leading 14-for-16 to the Tigers' 11-for-21.

After a quick score from Maria Arvizu to start the game the Running Eagles went dry, not scoring again until six minutes into the second quarter. The Tigers matched the scoring output of Life U through the first 24 minutes of the contest, 2-2, in large part due to uncharacteristic mistakes by the Running Eagles. After a score by Peyton Sanders broke the tie at the 5:49 mark, Head Coach Emily Cabrera called a timeout from which point Life U took control of the game. Goals by Arvizu, Alyssa Curto, and Lacy Legaspi in just over a two minute span saw the home squad take a 6-2 lead into the break.

The high Life U scoring output continued after halftime, five different Running Eagles netting goals in the third to outscore the Tigers 8-1. Arvizu and Lexi Santiago both scored multiple goals, while Sandra Wright and Nina Sutton scored their first of the contest. Life U achieved Running clock at the 7:53 mark of the third and held a commanding 14-3 advantage going into the final period.

The Running Eagles slowed things down in the fourth, only posting a pair of goals, but focusing on defense to keep the Tigers from being able to mount any kind of comeback.

Life U hits the road for the rest of the month, starting with a contest against Oglethorpe University February 22 at 6 PM.
