Women's Lacrosse Stays Perfect with 18-6 Victory at Oglethorpe

ATLANTA, Ga. --- The Life University women's lacrosse team took a short trip down the road to the campus of Oglethorpe University for their third contest of the year tonight, coming away with a dominant 18-6 victory.

Lexi Santiago led the way for Life U (3-0) to defeat Oglethorpe (3-2), recording a game high five goals to go with four ground balls and three draw controls. Senior, Maria Arvizu provided her usual showing, stuffing the stat sheet to come through in all phases of the game with three scores, two assists, four grounds balls, three caused turnovers, and a game high seven draw controls.

The stats heavily favored the Running Eagles as well, the team holding massive advantages in shots 44-17, caused turnovers 10-4, ground balls 27-18. Life U was also much more efficient on clears, going 17-for-20 in comparison to the Stormy Petrels 10-for-19.

It did not take long for the Running Eagles to express their dominance in the contest, jumping out to a 4-0 lead after the first quarter as the scores all came from different sources. Oglethorpe was finally able to break through the oppressive Life U defense in the second quarter, scoring half of their six goals in the period. The Running Eagles held pace though, continuing to extend the lead as Alyssa Curto scored her second and third goals of the day, while Arvizu and Santiago both posted their second of the day. With the close of the half, the Running Eagles went into the break with a 9-3 lead.

The Running Eagles experienced an offensive explosion in the third period, coming out of the break, compiling seven goals in the period to push the game into running clock. Santiago recorded a hat trick in the period alone, while Arvizu, Peyton Sanders, Lacy Legaspi, and Nicole Ortiz all got in on the scoring as well to see the score 16-6 with only 15 minutes to play. The Running Eagle defense completely stifled the Stormy Petrels in the final period as Life U slowed things down. The only scores in the period came from Jazzlynn Hollerbach and Legaspi to give the final score of 18-6.

The Running Eagles stay on the road for their next contest, playing at Reinhardt University Tuesday Feb. 28 at 6 PM.
