Women's Basketball Bested by #9 Loyola

NEW ORLEANS, La. — The Life University women's basketball team faced a tough opponent Saturday afternoon, falling to the Wolfpack from Loyola 83-76. 

The Running Eagles held an advantage through the first quarter, but the Running Eagles (14-14, 6-12 SSAC) fell behind in the second quarter after carrying a 21-16 through the first quarter. 

The second frame saw the #9 Wolfpack storm ahead, outscoring the Running Eagles 30-13, including a three minute drought that ended the quarter on a Loyola 11-3 run. 

Heading to the half down 12, 46-34, Fapou Semebene led the team with seven points. 

In the third quarter, Loyola extended its lead with an incredibly efficient 27 point quarter, knocking down 60% of their field goals, including 3-5 from downtown. The Wolfpack capitalized on Running Eagle turnovers, tabbing eight steals in the quarter on ten Life U. turnovers. 

In the final quarter, Life University slowed the ranked offense, matching the Wolfpack's output both scoring 18 points in the fourth. Caroline Singleton scored eight in the quarter as the Running Eagles fell 91-63. 

Overall, Life U shot 42% from the field and 30% from beyond the arc. Meanwhile, Loyola hit 43% including 38% from three point range. The Wolfpack scored 21 second chance points and  scored 32 points off 23 Running Eagle turnovers. 

Up next, the Running Eagles look ahead to the SSAC tournament where they will play Middle Georgia Wednesday morning at 10 am EST. The Running Eagles compete in the first leg of the conference tournament hosted in Montgomery, Ala.
