MOBILE, Ala. — The Life University men's basketball team earned a vital SSAC win against Mobile Thursday night, downing the Rams 84-76.
The Running Eagles led by as many as eleven but trailed by as many as six in the win, as the two teams remained within striking distance for the duration of the contest.
Life University was led by an impressive performance from Mohamed Elgohary, who matched a career-high with 28 points. The Egyptian transfer found success from both inside and out, shooting 5-9 from beyond the arc and 11-19 overall. Additionally, the junior tallied five rebounds, four steals and two blocks in the contest as the Running Eagles tabbed the crucial win.
The game proved to be a tale of two halves as the University of Mobile carried a three point lead to the half, 42-39.
Despite trailing at the half, Elgohary had already begun to find his rhythm, scoring 15 points on 6-9 from the field in first frame. Also keeping Life U in the contest in the first half, Dara Olonade secured eight points in eight minutes.
Second half basketball began with Mobile earning its largest lead of the game at the 16 minute mark after a made layup from Corien Pooh Frazier. After that, the Running Eagles went on 13-0 run to storm ahead to a 61-57 lead.
Life University then led by as many as eleven down the stretch, eventually winning the important Southern States Athletic Conference contest 84-76.
