MARIETTA, Ga. -- The Life University men's volleyball team had a solid showing against Truett McConnell, sweeping the Bears to celebrate Senior Day on Saturday afternoon with a 3-0 win.
Led in the attack by David Barcan, the Running Eagles dominated all three sets winning 25-16, 25-14 and 25-17.
In the first set, Ryan Ollie opened the match with an honorary ace before subbing out. The Running Eagles then committed a service error to level the contest, before continuing the match like normal. The opening set saw Life U string nine consecutive points together, jumping ahead to a 18-6 lead. The Bears then clawed back with a 6-0 run to slightly narrow the gap, but after a Life U timeout, the Running Eagles cruised to the opening 25-14 set one win.
The second set saw neither team break the frame open with runs, but the Running Eagles dominated from start to finish, taking the second set by the largest margin of the day, 25-14.
The final set began with a mini scare, as Truett McConnell bursted out of the gates to a favorable 6-2 lead. Worried not, the Running Eagles steadied the ship and regained the lead shortly thereafter with a 5-0 run. After that, it was all Life U, easily besting the Bears 25-17 in the final frame.
Overall, David Barcan lead the team with 12 kills while nearly matching the program record with seven aces. Seniors Nikolas Carrascal, Diego Perez, and Ryan Ollie only appeared in the first set. Other seniors honored in the pregame festivities included Jakaris Brown, Gavin Wright, and Javier Cornier.
The Running Eagles will reset over the weekend before hosting Morehouse College this upcoming Wednesday, March 22nd. First serve in the Upper Gym is set for 7 pm.
