Running Eagles Fall on Road at No. 1 Keiser, 11-8

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. --- The No. 4 Life University women's lacrosse team made a push late, to pull within a single score on the road at No. 1 Keiser, but were unable to finish, falling by a score of 11-8 to their Sun Conference rival Thursday night. 

Life U (6-2, 1-1 SUN) suffered its second loss of the season to a team that was at the time ranked No. 1, while Keiser (10-0, 2-0 SUN) takes firm control of the top spot in conference. Maria Arvizu kept the team in the game, putting together her seventh hat trick of the season with a game high five goals to go with six ground balls, seven draw controls, and a pair of caused turnovers. Defensively, Leanne Windon continued her excellent play, leading all players in both caused turnovers at six and ground balls at seven.

The Seahawks jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first, but the Running Eagles quickly answered. Arvizu posted a pair of scores and Lexi Santiago netted a goal of her own to see the game tied 3-3 as the first 15 minutes off play came to a close. The teams responded to each others scores over the opening segment of the second quarter, both of the Running Eagles scores coming on free position opportunities to see the game tied 5-5 with just over five minutes to half. Keiser ran off back-to-back scores iin the final minutes, sending the teams to the break with Life U trailing 7-5.

Neither team could find the back of the net in the third quarter, both sides defenses proving incredibly strong. The final period started with a pair of goals for Keiser to see Life U in a four goal disadvantage with 13 minutes to play. The Running Eagles were not done, scoring three straight to make it a one point game, 9-8, with four minutes to play. The run contained a pair of Arvizu goals and one for sophomore Nicole Ortiz. Life U was unable to finish the comeback, the Seahawks scoring twice in the final minutes to give the final of 11-8.

The Running Eagles stay on the road for their next conference contest, facing St. Thomas Saturday at noon.
